The area is a former gravel extraction, used for fishing since around 1963, and the Chawston Lakes Fishing Complex has now developed into a comprehensive leisure facility.
Regeneration Positive were involved in the successful application to allow for manager’s accommodation and additional caravan pitches to cater for the touring fisherman. The application was determined in Spring 2014 and this new leisure complex has real potential to make a positive contribution to the tourism economy in Bedford.

Public Art
Public Art features can add to the attraction and intrigue of an area, and often provide a topic for discussion. Leading on several investment schemes in Bedford town centre provided the opportunity to incorporate features for the community to enjoy. The environmental improvements to the Church Square area, for example, incorporated the ‘dry plaza’ water feature, whilst the enhancement work to Silver Street incorporated pubic art to establish the location as a key gateway into the town centre.
